“Manhattan Murder Mystery”, by Woody Allen (1993)

LARRY: Oh, Jesus. Claustrophobia and a dead body. This is a neurotic’s jackpot.

This is one of these movies that I enjoy watching every so often, especially after a stressful day. It completely relaxes me. One of my favorite scenes, is when Larry (Woody Allen) along with Carol (Diane Keaton), got stuck inside a hotel’s elevator, while investigating a murder.

scenesandthoughts:

“Somewhere”, by Sofia Coppola (2009)

Sofia Coppola can soundtrack her movies like no other. I simply adore these little moments, where a scene or a series of scenes are accompanied by the songs that she picks. She does that, in an almost effortless fashion. I believe that the uniqueness of her movies, stems from this little but very important detail.

In this scene, where Johny Marco (Stephen Dorff) spends time with his daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) having fun in Chateau Marmont, we listen to “I’ll Try Anything Once” by the Strokes.

scenesandthoughts:

L.A. Story, written by Steve Martin (1991)

For me Steve Martin is to Los Angeles,  what Woody Allen is to New York. Completely different characters, yet they manage to deliver almost the same feelings (at least to me). L.A. Story’s opening scene, resembles in a way Woody Allen’s Manhattan.

The helicopter with the hot dog is a parody of the opening to Fellini’s ‘La Dolce Vita’.

Manhattan by Woody Allen (1979)

For my first post, I have chosen to start with this opening scene, in Woody Allen’s 1979 movie Manhattan. This amazing visual paint of Allen’s view of New York along with George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue”, was my first and most defining experience with Woody Allen. I was only 11 years old, had no idea what the movie was really about, who Woody Allen was, but I was completely mesmerized by what I was seeing.

This particular scene made me a true Woody Allen fan, follower, viewer, reader, appreciator, moviegoer.

Well, I guess I just provided you with a “small” hint, over who is my favorite director. More to come in the future.

If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.

Pink Floyd - Time

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine Staying home to watch the rain And you are young and life is long And there is time to kill today And then one day you find Ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run You missed the starting gun And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter Never seem to find the time Plans that either come to nought Or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way The time is gone The song is over Thought I’d something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can When I come home cold and tired It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells

Pink Floyd - Time

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you’re older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to nought
Or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way
The time is gone
The song is over
Thought I’d something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It’s good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells
